Grade 7

The mission of the seventh grade teachers is to help the student grow academically, socially, physically, and emotionally.

Supporting Goals:

1. Educate each child using a team approach (parents, student, staff).

2. Assist student in their growth toward self-reliance and interdependency with others.

3. Provide a healthy, safe, nurturing environment conducive to learning.

4. Teach a variety of concepts and skills that empower the students to develop processes of problem solving, critical thinking, scientific thinking, and creative thinking in all area

COMMUNICATION ARTS
Literature: genre studies including mystery and science fiction
Writing: 5-paragraph essay, persuasive essays, narrative writing
Speaking: speech based on 5-paragraph essay
Technology: Microsoft Publisher, Photostory
Story elements, identification in literature as well as development in writing
Reinforcement of reading strategies

Analyzing situations in which change occurs, analyzing tables and graphs to identify patterns and to predict changes in data
Geometric change: enlargement, scale factors, area
Comparing numbers: proportions and ratios
Integers: basic functions with integers
Geometry: define and use base, height, area, perimeter/circumference of rectangles, parallelograms, triangles and circles

SCIENCE
Astronomy: identify and understand how astronomy defines time, composition of the solar system and beyond
Weather: components of weather systems, understanding weather forecasting, list and describe layers of the atmosphere
Geology: identifying common rocks and minerals and their relationship to the rock cycle, earth’s change over time, understanding how plate tectonics and weathering changes earth’s surface over time
Investigations: conduct investigations and produce data that will lead to a conclusion for questions related to earth and space science
