Mission Statement of Ashwaubenon School Libraries:

The school libraries will work collaboratively to empower future-ready students through:

• Curating an up-to-date and useful collection of both physical and digital resources and tools that support student learning, and literacy.

• Providing flexible, welcoming spaces and an environment that promotes inquiry, creativity, collaboration and community.

• Partnering with teachers to develop and implement lessons and projects that integrate critical thinking, clear communication, information literacy, digital citizenship, creativity and innovation using technology.

The Library Media Center supports the school curriculum and related activities by providing access to print, digital, and other learning materials. The Library Media Center and its staff are resources for reference, research and recreational reading. A majority of the time students will be pre-scheduled to visit the LMC with their teachers, as part of regular class activities. The Library Media Center staff will maintain an atmosphere of subdued study at all times. Talking quietly in group work is permitted but disturbances and noise will not be tolerated. Students using the Library Media Center as a gathering place will be sent back to their classrooms. Students may not leave the Library Media Center for any reason except to return to their assigned area. Lavatory or locker permission must be specifically requested at the check-out desk, and failure to do so will warrant disciplinary action. All students must have a planner or pass when coming to the LMC and they are expected to sign in at the circulation desk upon arrival and sign out when leaving, unless they are part of a scheduled group.

Food is not allowed in the LMC at any time. This includes gum and candy.

Monday: 7:30 a.m. to 3:10 p.m.

Tuesday: 7:30 a.m. to 3:10 p.m.

Wednesday: 7:30 a.m. to 3:10 p.m.

Thursday: 7:30 a.m. to 3:10 p.m.

Friday: 7:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

*When there is a shortened school week, the LMC closes at 3:00 p.m. on the last day of the week and at 1:00 p.m. on early release days. Students wishing to return books after hours may do so in the book drop located in the Commons at Parkview.

Students are responsible for the condition of materials that they check out. While LMC staff inspects items for condition after each checkout, students are also encouraged to carefully check the condition of each item and report any extraordinary wear, vandalism or damage prior to checkout.

There is a checkout limit of 5 print items per student at one time. Students can check out additional materials digitally.

NOTE: Anyone removing books or materials without using proper checkout procedures will lose their borrowing privileges and the theft may be reported to the authorities.

Look Books: Must remain in LMC

Headphones: 1 class period

Fines are not collected for overdue LMC materials. However, students must pay for lost materials and items damaged beyond repair. Students who lose or damage materials will be advised that they may retain their borrowing privileges by paying the cost of the lost or damaged item, or they may delay payment and forfeit their borrowing privilege. If a lost book is found after payment has been made, the Library Media Center will refund the full payment price.

Overdue notices will be emailed weekly to the email address students have on file with the district until the overdue issue is resolved. Subsequent letters, mailings, or telephone calls will follow as needed. The email will indicate the call number, barcode number, and price of all items that are overdue as of the time the email was sent. The title is not included in the email message because of student privacy rights. Wisconsin statutes dictate that parents or guardians of children under the age of 16 who would like information regarding what specific titles their student(s) have checked out can get it by contacting the LMC directly and it will be provided. We encourage parents and students to communicate regularly about what things are being checked out and when they need to be returned. Non-payment of fines or debts owed by students will result in loss of all borrowing privileges as long as they are in the Ashwaubenon School District until the fine or debt is paid.

All students at Parkview are 1:1 with school-issued Chromebook devices. This means that each student is assigned 1 Chromebook and 1 charger at the beginning of the school year, which they should expect to use on a daily basis.

If students forget their device at home, they should call home to see if anyone can bring their device to them at school. They may sign in to the LMC with their teacher's permission, and use a loaner Chromebook for the hour within the library. Library loaner Chromebooks are not permitted to be taken out of the LMC.

If a student arrives to school without a fully charged Chromebook, or if the Chromebook battery dies throughout the day, the student may work in the LMC with their teacher's permission while it charges, using one of our loaner chargers. Loaner chargers may not leave the LMC.

Students are expected to follow the district's Acceptable Use Policy regarding computer use, or privileges will be revoked. Please note these computers are to be used for educational purposes only and not free time activities. Furthermore, students must always have permission from a supervising adult in the LMC to print.

There are also numerous online reference databases students will have access to at school or from home. Students may obtain passwords from the Library Media Center to use these online databases since they are services we pay for.
